Barbara Alford

Barbara Durden Alford, 74, a resident of Mt. Hermon, died Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 9, 2017, at her home.
She was a longtime active member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, where she served as church secretary for many years and also on the finance committee. Barbara was a member of the church choir and played the piano on occasion. She worked alongside her husband in their Tangi-Wash Dairy and on the farm and was always a dependable help-mate in the family business. Barbara enjoyed watching the basketball games at Bowling Green and loved following her granddaughters during their softball and soccer games.
She is survived by: her husband of 56 years, Paul Alford of Mt. Hermon; daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Gene Consterdine of Baton Rouge; two granddaughters, Victoria Consterdine and Haleigh Consterdine; sisters-in-law, Linda Durden of Franklinton, Eleanor “Pete” Schilling and Delores Corkern, both of Mt. Hermon; brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” Smith of Mt. Hermon; and also numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, James Preston Alford; her parents, Russell Durden and Florena Jenkins Durden; sister, Candice Lorena Durden; brother, William Russell “Bill” Durden; sisters-in-law, Mary Ella “Toby” Smith and Patsy Dedon; and brothers-in-law, J.W. “Doc” Schilling, Jimmy Corkern and Ralph Dedon.
Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home on Friday, Aug. 11, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Joe Baugh and Rev. Ray Wuerzer officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Warren Smith, Ronnie Moak, Ronnie Tamor, Gary Fenner, Cliff Bryan and Raymond Cade. Honorary pallbearers were George Burch and Ray Bergin.
