Local veteran’s photo needed for war project

Janna Hoehn, who lives in Hawaii and made it her mission to gather pictures of Vietnam soldiers killed in action for inclusion on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund web site, said she is now down to just one missing picture of a soldier from Washington Parish.

Ten men from Washington Parish died in Vietnam. One was from Franklinton, one was from Varnado, and eight were from Bogalusa.

In May, Hoehn reported she was down to only needing pictures of two soldiers from this parish — Albert J. Peters and James W. Blackmon.

On Saturday, she checked in again

“Aloha, I just wanted to let you know we received a photo for Albert Peters … still trying to find a photo of James Blackmon,” Hoehn said.

She said James Blackmon was from Bogalusa and was born in 1932 and died in 1970. Hoehn is hoping that somebody who sees or hears about this story will send her a picture of Blackmon so she can wrap up Washington Parish.

Anyone who has a picture of Blackmon is asked to send it to Hoehn at neverforgotten2014@gmail.com. She asks that everybody share this message and her email address.

To view the photos that have been collected, go to www.vvmf.org/thewall behind the search box, click on Advanced Search, type Washington Parish in the county box, then choose Louisiana and hit submit. Leave all the other spaces blank. All profiles for the parish will come up. Anyone with a generic photo means the project does not yet have a photograph of that subject.
