Dottie Freeman

Dottie Sue Spears Freeman, a resident of Bogalusa, passed away early Thursday morning, July 27, 2017, at her home.

She was retired from Crown Zellerbach, Grocery Bag Division, where she was employed for 14 years. Mrs. Freeman was born Aug. 24, 1935, and was 81 years young.

She was the beloved wife of the late Jewel Freeman of Bogalusa for 61years. Dottie was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She was loved by all who came into contact with her.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Katharine Freeman Crain, a longtime teacher at Tylertown High School, of Franklinton. She leaves grandchildren that were the joy of her life, Shane and Chrissy Crain of Hernando, Miss., Laura and Steven Byrd of Pine, and Jeremy Blake and Charli Freeman of Franklinton. She leaves seven great-grandchildren, Austin Stuart, Grayson Stuart, Aleigha Byrd, Ryan Byrd, Cameron Byrd all of Pine, Presley Crain, Kason Crain of Hernando. She leaves one sister, Frankie Spears Sandifer of Bogalusa and numerous nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.

Dottie was also preceded in death by her only son Gregory “Greg” Freeman; parents, Chalmers Spears and Allie Ruth Merritt Spears; a brother, Chalmers Lee Spears; two sisters, Johnnie Merle Spears Seals and Ruthie Mae Spears Ward McDaniel; two nephews, Virgil Seals and Charles Spears; and niece, Bobbie O’Quinn.

Visitation will be at Pine Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, July 29, from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday with Bro. Lynn Martin and Bro. Brent King officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Community Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Ronnie O’Quinn, Kenneth Gerald, Billy Penton, Jimmy Carter, John Bourgeous and Keith Estave.
