Howard Lee Byrd Sr. was born on July 27, 1947, to the late O.D. Byrd and Addie Mae Greathouse Byrd in Sylacauga, Ala., and departed this life on Saturday, July 22, 2017.

Howard lived in New Orleans for many years. He worked for the city of New Orleans prior to retirement and moved to Bogalusa with his wife of 41 years and their four sons. In Bogalusa, he continued to work part-time, mowing yards and enjoying his life to the fullest.

He was an active member of Brown’s Temple AOH Church of God and was always willing to do whatever was asked of him, and he made sure it was done. He was friendly to everyone he met and he never met a stranger.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his lovely wife, Alice Mave Byrd; sons, Howard Jr. (Shalantria of Bogalusa, Darryl (Stacy) of Concord, Ala., Courtney (Marquis) of Petal, Miss.; 10 grandchildren, Michael and Melody Byrd, Kristie Ponie Wiezle of Detroit, Mich., Demarius Robinson and Zikeya Byrd and Darryl Byrd Jr. of Concord, Ki’Arah and Brianna Byrd of Petal, and Brendan and Alica Byrd of Covington.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 29, from noon until 1 p.m. at Brown’s Temple, located at 1101 S. Royal St. in Bogalusa. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m.
