Dr. Gilbert Caillouet

Dr. Gilbert “Gibby” Eugene Caillouet Sr., a resident of Bogalusa, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2017, at Our Lady of the Angels Hospital in Bogalusa, at the age of 89. He was born on June 5, 1928 in Deweyville, Texas, to Constant Dejean and Gertrude Robin Caillouet, and grew up in Welsh.

He graduated in 1955 from the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, and was in family practice for more than 50 years. Dr. Caillouet served in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1958 and the U.S. Air Force from 1976-1977. In the midst of his long medical career, he was honored to receive the Degree of Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. Caillouet is preceded in death by his parents, Dejean and Gertrude; his sister, Emma Jane Bertrand; and Belle Walton, who was the love of his life.

He is survived by his children, Leslie Anne Caillouet (Cindy), Michelle Caillouet Bartchy (Ed), Dr. Gilbert Eugene Caillouet Jr., Alexis Caillouet Eaves (Glenn), Glenn Michael Caillouet, Lori McClendon Champagne (Ricky), and Terri McClendon; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Saturday, July 29, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Eulogy will begin at 11 a.m.
