An 81-year-old Angie man was killed Saturday afternoon in a shooting, according to Chief Deputy Mike Haley of the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Haley said that approximately mid-afternoon, the WPSO was notified of a shooting death in the Angie community in northeast Washington Parish. Patrol deputies and detectives responded to the scene.

Haley said that the victim, Hoyt “Chick” Boyd, 81, an Angie resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. The preliminary investigation indicates that the shooting was in self-defense, Haley said.

No arrest was made and the matter will be referred to the 22nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Sheriff Randy Seal, who was at the scene, commented.

“This is a tragic event which strongly impacts not only this family but also the entire close-knit Angie community,” Seal said. “I extend my sincere sympathy to all who are touched by this event and offer my prayers for the Boyd family.”
