Maj. Percy Knight, the public information officer for the Bogalusa Police Department, said that a Bogalusa man was recently arrested on drug charges after a citizen called in a complaint of a person knocking on doors in the early-morning hours.
Knight said that on Sunday, July 2 at 3:43 a.m. the BPD received the call, in reference to someone knocking on the doors in the Redmond Heights Projects. Responding officers observed a vehicle turn into the apartment complex with one brake light, Knight said. Officers got behind the vehicle and reportedly observed the driver pull off the road and begin to blow the horn repeatedly.
The officers stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, identified as Devin Schilling, 25, of Bogalusa.
Upon exiting the vehicle, Schilling seemed intoxicated and to be having problems standing, Knight said. When the officers reportedly conducted a pat down for a weapon and located an illegal pill in Schilling’s front pants pocket, he was placed under arrest.
Knight said that officers then saw an ice chest with netting on one side in the back seat. The netting reportedly contained a handgun and an open container of alcohol, and when they removed the handgun, the officers could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the ice chest, according to Knight.
Knight said that the ice chest contained a large amount of marijuana, and inside the larger chest was a smaller chest with marijuana packaged for sale. The vehicle also contained digital scales used for selling and packaging drugs, Xanax, five ecstasy pills, three acetaminophen and hydrochloride pills, small plastic bags to package the illegal drugs and an open bottle of Hennessy cognac, Knight said.
Knight said that the recovered handgun was reportedly confirmed as stolen.
Schilling was arrested and faces a multitude of charges, including the following: possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a drug-free zone, disturbing the peace, driving under suspension, possession of a firearm in a firearm-free zone, no motor vehicle inspection, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute Schedule II drugs (Acetaminophen and Hydrochloride Stamped U02), possession with intent to distribute Schedule II drugs (Acetaminophen and Hydrochloride Stamped 3601), possession with intent to distribute Schedule IV drugs (Xanax), possession with intent to distribute Schedule I drugs (Ecstacy), possession of a stolen firearm, tail lamps required, open container, and illegal carrying of a weapon while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
