A 57-year-old Bogalusa woman was killed Sunday evening, after she was hit by a car while riding a motorized scooter, according to the Louisiana State Police.

Trooper Dustin Dwight of the LSP said that shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday, troopers from LSP Troop L responded to a fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 60, near the intersection of Louisiana Highway 439 in Washington Parish. The crash claimed the life of Sherry S. Byrd, 57, of Bogalusa.

Investigating troopers determined that the crash occurred as Byrd was leaving a residence on the north side of Highway 60, Dwight said. She was riding an electric mobility aid scooter. As Byrd crossed into the eastbound lane of Highway 60, she was hit by a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze driven by Amanda Brooke Lloyd, 28, of Bogalusa.

Dwight said that Byrd sustained severe injuries in the crash and was transported to Our Lady of the Angels Hospital in Bogalusa, where she succumbed to her injuries. Lloyd was properly restrained at the time of the crash and was uninjured. Lloyd provided troopers with a voluntary breath sample, which showed no amount of alcohol present.

As part of the ongoing crash investigation, blood samples were collected from Byrd, Dwight said. The results are pending scientific analysis. The investigation is ongoing, and the investigative report will be forwarded to the 22nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office at the conclusion of the investigation.
