Franklinton Police Department officers arrested a 27-year-old man on drug charges Sunday, after they responded to a domestic violence complaint.

According to FPD officials, on Sunday Cpl. Clay Arceneaux and Patrolman William Seals were investigating a domestic violence complaint. In the process of doing so, officers encountered a vehicle operated by Dustin O. Williams, 27, which was obstructing a public roadway.

Upon approaching the driver and vehicle, officers observed a handgun on the floorboard near Williams’s feet, according to the FPD. Williams was asked to exit the vehicle, and during the investigation, officers could reportedly smell the strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed 38.6 grams of packaged marijuana, additional packaging materials, digital scales along with the loaded semi-automatic handgun.

As a result, Williams was placed under arrest and charged with possession with intent to distribute a schedule I controlled dangerous substance, possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, obstruction of a public passage and open container.
