FPD nabs wanted man

Franklinton Police Department officers recently arrested a man who was wanted by the Covington Police Department, after the suspect traveled through Washington Parish.

According to information released by the FPD, on Sunday, the FPD received information from the Covington Police Department about possible child abduction, where an individual had produced a weapon. The information indicated the suspect may be in route to an address in Franklinton.

After a short search for the suspected vehicle, FPD Sgt. Brad Eckert, assisted by Reserve Pfc. Will Seals located and stopped the vehicle. The driver, Tremale Deonte Jenkins, and other occupants of the vehicle were detained for investigation. After receiving consent to search the vehicle by the owner, officers found a 9mm handgun. A records check revealed that the weapon had been reported stolen from Pike County in Mississippi.

Jenkins, a convicted felon, was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The Covington Police Department was contacted and their officers are currently investigating any other possible charges on the incident that occurred in Covington.
