The Bogalusa chapter of the AARP will holds its monthly meeting Thursday at 3 p.m.
During the meeting, the chapter will commemorate National Older Americans Month and National Women’s Health Month, an initiative of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Emma Dixon, president of the chapter, said the group will also acknowledge High Blood Pressure and Stroke Awareness Month in cooperation with AARP Bogalusa Chapter 4032, Our Lady of the Angels Hospital and the American Heart Association.
On the same day, the chapter will also unveil a new cooperative agreement with AARP Bogalusa, the Washington Parish Council on Aging, the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, Bogalusa Police Department, and the Franklinton Police Department, to actively and aggressively protect senior citizens from abuse, bullying and harassment and intimidation from young people in the community. There have been several recent incidents of abuse, bullying and intimidation of senior citizens and the elderly with some cases resulting in physical violence, and we want to prevent future occurrences in our community, Dixon said.
“Finally, we also plan to congratulate and honor our recent Bogalusa High School valedictorian,” Dixon said. “We do this every year.”
Other agenda activities may include thanking State Rep. Malinda White for her recent support of Louisiana AARP’s Caregiving Initiative and Caregiving Lobby Day at the Louisiana State Capitol on Tuesday, May 9.
