Volunteers with the Humane Society of Louisiana Magnolia Chapter will host an “Animal Adoption event” at the Bogalusa Animal Control shelter behind City Hall from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. Saturday.
“There are currently nine dogs ranging in size from 25 pounds to 65 pounds available,” said Beth Eaton, Magnolia Chapter president. “The breeds range from terrier mix, Labrador mix, hound mix, retriever mix, Catahoula mix, pit bull mix, and one gorgeous, full-bred, blue pit named Marian. There is one chocolate lab mix puppy at 8 months — the rest are adults, aged 1 to 5 years.”
She said that each dog adopted would have a parvo/distemper shot, a heartworm test, and be already started on heartworm preventative and treated for internal and external parasites. If a dog tests positive for heartworms, the new family will receive 12 months of heartworm preventative free of charge.
“The adoption fee is $10 with a spay/neuter contract for the new pets to be altered within 30 days of adoption,” Eaton said. “It is a state law that any dog/cat adopted from a shelter has to be spayed or neutered within the 30-day time period. This can be done at your veterinarian or with our spay/neuter clinic. The number for our clinic is 985-241-4290.”
She encouraged attendance and adoption on Saturday.
“There are some great dogs at BAC,” Eaton said. “A rescued dog makes a wonderful, very loving pet. They seem to know they were saved and are very grateful to their new family. Please make ‘rescue’ your favorite breed!”
