Goodyear Park was a center of activity Saturday morning, as two events were held to celebrate healthy lifestyles and family fun.

Our Lady of the Angels Hospital sponsored its second annual “Family Fest,” featuring a variety of exhibits to encourage healthy living. Also, the Bogalusa Farmers’ Market celebrated its grand opening.

The market is now scheduled to be open at Goodyear Park every Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Rene Ragas, CEO of Our Lady of the Angels Hospital, said that the Family Fest is one way the medical institution can achieve its mission.

“Part of us being a good community partner is that we can promote activities like this to promote healthy living,” he said, during the morning’s ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Mike Strain, the state commissioner of agriculture, was among those in attendance Saturday morning.

“We have farmers markets all over the state,” he said. “We like to say, ‘know your farmer, know your food.’ Come to the farmers’ market. Get your family together, buy some fresh food and take it home to cook it up.

“It helps build your local community. I hope you’ll come out often and enjoy it.”
