Rayburn Correctional Center’s K-9 unit attended the five day 2017 Southern States Manhunt Field Trials at Camp Robinson National Guard Base, in North Little Rock, Ark., in early March, and it brought home a first-place plaque and a third-place plaque.
The Field Trials consisted of three categories: Single Leash, Multi Leash, and Pack Dogs. Each team ran one day-track and one night-track. Each track was two hours old and approximately 1.5 miles in length.
The RCC Multi Leash, multiple dog, team, composed of Capt. Richard Forbes and Lt. Cody Williams and beagles: Biggie, Ranger, Brownie, Tomahawk, and Brandy, took first place.
The RCC Single Leash team of Maj. Edgar Jenkins and Sgt./Master Jonathan Stringer and tracking bloodhound Willie, took third place.
Warden Bobby Tanner was delighted with the results, and he commended the RCC K-9 unit.
“I am very pleased and proud of the officers, and their K-9 partners, who participated in this event,” he said. “They work and train hard to be the best they can be. Competitions like this enable them to network with other K-9 teams in our region, share information, and further develop their skills.
“Our officers’ first place finish in Multi Leash teams, and third place finish in Single Leash teams, demonstrate that they are among the best in the business.”
