Ernestine Johnson Potter

Ernestine Johnson Potter was born Jan. 3, 1958 in Bogalusa, to Aristine Johnson and the late Johnny C. Lewis. She was later married to the late Ray Brister. She died peacefully in her home on March 11, 2017.

Ernestine leaves to cherish her memories to her children, Tekeisha (John) Ard, Keona (Eddie) Johnson of Bogalusa, and Sonya (Omar) Latimer of Bolingbrook, Ill.; her grandsons, Laderious Rashad Johnson, Javontay Owens, Eddie Johnson IV and Rodrick Johnson, all of Bogalusa; her granddaughters, Gabrielle Ard, Amaya Johnson, Jasmine Johnson of Bogalusa, Kylah and Jayla Latimer of Bolingbrook, and Takia Ard of Covington; her brothers, Willie A. Johnson, Robert E. Johnson, Larry Johnson, Minister Alton Johnson, and Albert Jackson; her sisters, Willistine Watson of Atlanta, Ga., Emma Gatlin, Charlotte (Stefon) Gibson, Angela (Kobely) Clarke, Christine Moses of Bogalusa, Tonya (Fred) Bickham, of Columbia, Miss., and Johnnie Titia Lewis of Baton Rouge.

Ernestine is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Brister; beloved son, Mitchell L. Johnson; her father, Johnnie C. Lewis; her brother, Johnnie Lee Johnson; her sister, Christine May; her sister-in-law, Latonya Shun Johnson; nephew, Senior Airman Myron Roderick Harriel; her grandparents, Hosie and Etta McKelphin; aunt, Ms. Ernestine Austin Young; and two uncles, Mr. Herbert and Willie B. McKelphin.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Bogalusa, with the Rev. Douglas Hart, host pastor, and Pastor Michael Oree officiating.
