Vera Carrier-Holtzclaw

Vera Elizabeth Carrier-Holtzclaw, 79, passed away on March 11, 2017 in Slidell. She was born on Dec. 18, 1937 and was a life long resident of Bogalusa. She was the ninth child born to the late Benjamin F. Carrier and Effie Carter Carrier.

She is survived by her children, Ralph (Jennifer) Holtzclaw of Bogalusa, Martha (David) Rhodus of Holden, and Wanda Marshall of Bogalusa; five grandchildren, Melanie (Brett) Neal of Franklinton, Jesse Holtzclaw of Spartanburg, S.C., Heather (Mark) Petty of Holden, Shantel (Glenn) Parker of Vancleave, Miss., and Briana (Jesse) Clarke of Madisonville; six great-grandchildren, Clea Davis, Maddie, Brian, and Addy Brooke Parker, Pipper Elizabeth Petty and Samuel Clarke; one sister, Jenny Lee Franks of Bogalusa; one brother-in-law, Carlton LaBorde of Laplace and a host of nieces and nephews.

Vera was preceded in death by her grandson, Cory Flynn; two brothers, Meryle and Addison Carrier; and six sisters, Myrtle Bavedas, Mae Robertson, Louise Collums, Adilee Carrier, Mary Lee Thigpen and Effie (Shortie) Laborde.

Visitation was held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Monday, March 13 at 1 p.m., with funeral services beginning at 3 p.m. Rev. Travis Houston and Rev. Rex Arbuckle officiated. Interment followed at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
