Last Friday, Mt. Hermon’s basketball season came to an end in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs.

Despite the loss, the Yellow Jackets had a successful season and a great playoff run.

They entered the LHSAA postseason as the 23rd-seeded team in Class B and had to face a trio of top-10 seeds in the playoffs.

They began the playoffs on the road against No. 10 Pitkin and pulled off a 42-40 victory to advance to the regionals. In the regionals, the Yellow Jackets were at home, facing No. 7 Negreet. The game went to overtime, but again, Mt. Hermon pulled out a close victory, 74-70.

In the quarterfinals, they had the daunting task of playing Hathaway, which won 28 regular season games — 21 by double digits. Hathaway’s only losses were to Iowa and Lake Arthur, both regional round teams in Class 3A and 2A respectively.

Hathaway ended up winning its semifinal game and is playing for the title tonight against Zwolle (29-7).

Mt. Hermon finished the 2016-17 campaign with a 13-11 record.

Congrats to the Yellow Jackets on their 2016-17 season.
