On Saturday, March 25, the Bogalusa High School Army Jr. ROTC drill team won the U.S. Army Northshore District Championship. The JROTC Northshore District consists of Bogalusa, Lakeshore, Fontainebleau, Northshore and Salmen High Schools. By placing second overall during Saturday’s competition, the Lumberjacks were the overall season points leader and clinched the championship. The drill team cadets have truly earned the championship, due to their commitment to excellence and rigorous training plan they have executed since December.
The Lumberjack Battalion hosted Saturday’s competition that consisted of teams from Franklinton, Northshore, Fontainebleau, Salmen and Natchitoches Central High Schools. Although it rained the majority of the day, the Lumberjack Battalion implemented their inclement weather plan and conducted a highly successful and professional competition.
The Lumberjack drill team performed well above the standard by placing second overall during the event, along with simultaneously running the competition. Natchitoches Central High School finished in first place overall and Franklinton High School finished in third place overall.
In reference to Saturday’s individual events, the Lumberjacks placed:
• First place — Top Male Push-up (Cadet Chris Mason).
• First place — Top Female Sit-up (Cadet Jameka Lucas).
• First place — Tug-O-War.
• First place — Physical Fitness.
• First place — Unarmed Regulation.
• First place — Knockout Drill (Cadet Deondra Fernandez).
• Second place — Color Guard Team 1.
• Second place — Armed Regulation.
• Second place — Armed Exhibition.
• Second place — Knockout Drill (Cadet Cullene Cotton).
• Third place — Inspection.
• Third place — Color Guard Team 2.
Congratulations to the district champion Lumberjack Battalion drill team. The Lumberjack Battalion conducted a complete sweep of the inaugural U.S. Army JROTC Northshore District competition year by also winning the Raider District Championship last fall.
