On Saturday, Feb. 11, the Bogalusa High School Army Jr. ROTC drill team continued their winning ways by achieving first place at the Fontainebleau High School drill competition.

“The drill team has trained hard since their last competition and their dedication has paid off through their dominant performance at Fontainebleau,” said Ret. Lt. Col. Gavin Guidry, senior Army instructor.

Guidry noted that the team not only won first place overall, but also had excellent performances in a majority of the competition’s events.

Bogalusa earned first place in armed regulation, unarmed regulation and unarmed exhibition. The Lumberjacks took second place in armed exhibition, male color guard, female color guard, and physical training (team B). Bogalusa finished in third place in physical training (team A).

The Lumberjacks also had several strong individual performances. Cadet Charvo Myers placed second in the knockout drill, and cadet Devonte Jackson placed third in the same event.

Bogalusa also earned a sweep in the top cadet category for physical training. Cadet Pasquale Lavorgna was named the top male cadet in that event, and cadet Jameka Lucas was the top female cadet.

Guidry said that there are just two competitions remaining in the season. The Lumberjack drill team is currently in first place in the U.S. Army Northshore District standings, and Bogalusa will host the season’s final competition at the high school on Saturday, March 25.
