Verlin Dunnam

Verlin “Butch” Jessie Dunnam, 70, of Hammond, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017, at home with his family by his side.

He was born on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 1946, in Mobile, Ala., to Robert Wesley and Ruby Lee Still Dunnam. Butch never met a stranger, always made friends, and he enjoyed life. He loved to go coon hunting, fishing and restoring classic cars, but especially loved spending time with his family, friends and three grandsons.

Butch is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sandra Hoehn Dunnam; his daughters, Jennifer Dunnam, Becky Dunnam Fiorillo and her husband Ricky, Angie Dunnam Neihaus and her husband Henry; his grandchildren, Luca and Matteo Fiorillo and Nicholas Neihaus; his sister, Shirley Thompson; and also many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and close friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Wesley and Ruby Lee Still Dunnam; his brother, Vernon Dunnam; and younger sister, Betty Dunnam Moore.

A visitation for Butch will be held on Sunday, Feb. 5, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m., at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond. A funeral service celebrating Butch’s life will immediately follow visitation at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Louis Boldt. A graveside service will be held on Monday, Feb. 6, at 1 p.m. in Grimes Cemetery, located on Turner Road in Washington County, Ala.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in Butch’s memory.
