Sally Rae Walder Rosenblum died at her home in Bogalusa, on Jan. 13, 2017. She was born in Alexandria, in September of 1931 and was the beloved only child of Sylvia and Isaac Walder.

Sally Rae was raised by her parents and maternal grandparents. She graduated from LSU with a degree in elementary education but quickly left a career in teaching to help run the family department store, Rosenblum’s. Her husband, Alvin Rosenblum, died young, and she never remarried. Once she “retired” from the retail business, she spent her time gardening — she was certified as a master gardener — traveling the world with friends and family, and serving the community of Bogalusa as a mentor and supporter of many cultural causes. She hosted a treasured family Thanksgiving gathering at her home for more than 25 years. Sally derived her greatest joy from spending time with her four grandchildren and recent great-grandchild.

Sally leaves a legacy of love with her two children, Howard Walder Rosenblum (Candy Sutton Rosenblum) and Judy Ann Rosenblum (John Broude); grandchildren, Sylvia Broude (Winston Vaughan), Zack Rosenblum (Sara Levine Rosenblum), Max Broude (Megan Calhoun Broude) and Cynthia Rosenblum Turbow (Paul Turbow); and her great-grandchild, Micah Drew Rosenblum. Nothing was more important to Sally than family, and her life was also enriched by relationships with her nieces, nephew, cousins and friends around the country.

In her last years, she was fortunate to have the great care of caregivers Stella Giadrosich, Gladys Story, Denise Vinson, Maria Rihner and Michelle Phillips.

A private burial was held in Alexandria on Sunday, Jan. 15. For those wishing to make contributions in her honor, memorials can be made to the charity of your choice or to: “Friends of the Bogalusa Library (304 Ave. F, Bogalusa, LA 70427)” or “Fund for Bogalusa (807 N. Columbia St., Covington, LA 70433).”
