On Jan. 10, a Bogalusa area business located on Highway 21 South reported that an unknown person had entered the vehicle of one of their employees and stole a purse containing identification and credit cards.

While deputies were canvassing the area, they received information from others who told them of a suspicious female in the area who was seen looking in vehicles. They were able to provide a description of the woman.

As deputies continued searching the area, they observed a female walking near the area of the theft who matched the description of the suspect. When she observed the deputies she allegedly fled on foot and hid.

According to sheriff’s deputies, sometime later she emerged from her hiding place and went to her residence. The sheriff’s office reports that when deputies took her into custody, she admitted to   taking the purse and other items from the vehicle. She consented to a search of her residence. Inside, deputies reportedly found the victim’s wallet, identification and credit card. All items were returned to the victim.

Kasey E. Woodard, 14388 Highway 21 South, was arrested and transported to the Washington Parish Jail where she is being held on charges of vehicle burglary and probation violation. Due to her being on probation at the time of her arrest, no bond has been set.

According to the sheriff’s office, Woodard is no stranger to the Washington Parish Jail. In February 2009, she was arrested for failure to honor a written promise and possession of drugs. She was released the same day on a $10,000 bond. In February 2014, she was arrested for forgery and was released the same day on a $7,500 bond. She was arrested again in September 2016 on a charge of possession of drugs and released five days later on a $5,000 bond.

“Another thief taken off of our streets,” said Sheriff Randy Seal. “Our deputies did their usual good job and I cannot brag on them enough. There is only one place suitable for a thief and that is the Washington Parish Jail.”
