A two-vehicle accident shut down the intersection of Columbia and Willis Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

According to police Chief Kendall Bullen, a 2000 Oldsmobile driven by Ricky Meaux was travelling south and made a left turn onto Martin Luther King Drive. Bullen said no left turns are allowed at that intersection, and as the car was turning, it was struck by a 2005 Dodge Ram towing a trailer.

While the driver of the Dodge Ram suffered no injuries, paramedics had to use the Jaws of Life to extract a 72-year-old passenger from the Oldsmobile. Bullen said she was taken to Our Lady of the Angels Hospital and her wounds were not severe. The driver did not have serious injuries.

Bullen said Meaux was cited for disregarding a traffic control.
