A Bush resident died last week after his motorcycle collided with a car on Louisiana Highway 21 in Sun.

According to the St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office, Joseph Bruno’s 2002 Honda Silverwing motorcycle was travelling south on Highway 21 the evening of Dec. 29. At about 7 p.m. as Bruno, 60, of Bush, approached the intersection of Pierce Road, a 2011 Chevy Malibu pulled out of the driveway of the Sun Village Bingo Hall and failed to yield to the motorcycle. The Malibu was driven by Emelda Mingo, 60, of Bogalusa.

According to the sheriff’s office, Bruno was unable to avoid the collision and he hit Mingo’s vehicle. Bruno was ejected from his motorcycle during the impact.

Bruno was airlifted to Lakeview Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries. Mingo was transported to Our Lady of the Angels Hospital with minor injuries.

According to Bruno’s obituary, he had been a pharmacist at Our Lady of the Angels in Bogalusa since 2006.

As part of the on-going crash investigation, deputies obtained blood samples of both drivers, which have been sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Mingo was determined to be at fault in the crash, the St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office said.

Prior to Bruno’s death, Mingo received a traffic citation for failing to yield from a private drive. However, officials said criminal charges could be filed at a later date pending the results of the blood toxicology and after consulting with the 22nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
