Mildred Pittman

Mildred Carter Pittman, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at the Riverside Medical Center.

Born Jan. 4, 1927, she was a lifelong resident of the Plainview Community and member of the Plainview Baptist Church. She was a registered nurse for a short time before starting her family. She was a wonderful Christian stay-at-home mom to her five children.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty (Mike) Gill of Franklinton, and Sue (Kim) Barker of Davenport, Fla.; three sons, Gary (Denise) Pittman, Terry (Lovelady) Pittman, and Gregg Pittman, all of Bogalusa; her sister, Eugene (Doyle) Corkern of Franklinton; 12 grandchildren, Scotty (Vicki) Blackwell, Jennifer (Derek) Sharp, MaKayla (fiancé Will Seals) Newman, Gary (Allie) Pittman Jr., Dusty (Breann) Pittman Sr., Brandi Pittman, Easton Pittman, Ethan Pittman, Corey Barker, Amy (Randy) Simmons, Monica (Scott) Amacker and Heather Jones; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Nathan William Pittman Jr.; her parents, Gordon and Myrtle Jones Carter; her brothers, Hubert (Lucille) Carter and Otis (Marie) Carter; her sister, Ina Mae (Jewel) Johnston; her great-granddaughter, Hannah Marie Amacker; and her great-grandson, Daxton Zayne Sharp.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 4, (her 90th birthday) at the Plainview Baptist Church, located at 55179 Highway 60 in Bogalusa, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday, Jan. 5, at Plainview Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Scott Breland and the Rev. Keith Sheridan officiating. Special music will be provided by Butch Reviere. Interment will follow at the Pittman Family Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Scotty Blackwell, Easton Pittman, Ethan Pittman, Dusty Pittman Sr., Gary Pittman Jr. and Will Seals.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Plainview Baptist Church Building Fund or the Bread of Life Ministries.
