Youth council to speak at city meeting

Coordinator Regina Meyerchick, of the Washington Parish Youth Council, will present a PowerPoint presentation about the results of a “Caring Community Survey” done in 2014 among sixth, eighth, 10th and 12th grade teenagers in the area schools.
The youth council is composed of some area junior-high and high school students, whose mission is to advocate for the non-use of tobacco products and illegal drugs.
The short presentation will occur at the regular meeting of the Bogalusa City Council at City Hall auditorium on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 5:30 p.m.
Tobacco use, illegal drugs and alcohol consumption is on the rise among young school age population.
Among the youth presenters who are expected to attend, support and participate are Abbi Fornea, Tanner McKenzie, Alyson Jones, Claire Singley, Sarah Kennedy, Gillian Gable, Allyssa Vargas, Allyssa Jones and Dalton Forbes.
The survey is conducted every other year under the supervision of Region IX Tobacco Free Living and the auspices of the local ADAPT, Inc. directed programs headed by Gail Brigham and Kelli McKenzie, along with grantor Charlotte Fornea, respectively.
