Veterans, elected officials and VA officials were on hand Tuesday at noon to formally open the new Bogalusa Veterans Administration Outpatient Clinic on Ontario Avenue.

The new clinic is larger than the former clinic on Memphis Street and it offers more services and accessibility to area vets. The clinic is operated by Valor Healthcare. Hazel Church, a regional operations director for Valor, said the new building is about 5,000 square feet, which is 1,200 square feet larger. The new clinic offers many of the same services as the old clinic, including mental health services, primary care, women’s health services, lab services and pharmacy consultation. However, telehealth services have been added and Mayor Wendy Perrette said the new space offers the possibility of further expansion.

“I’m excited for the city of Bogalusa and the fact that we’re going to have room to grow more services for our veterans,” she said.

Church said the clinic currently serves 1,100 vets, and any veteran may use the facility.

“It doesn’t have to be Washington Parish veterans,” Church said. “They can come from wherever they like.”

Dr. Alan Schonfeld, the regional medical director of Valor Helathcare, said the move went smoothly.

“We’re definitely excited,” he said. “We’re excited to be here and we’re excited to provide more expanded services to veterans.”
