Catherine Swilley

Catherine Clement George Swilley passed into eternal peace on Nov. 21, 2016.

Born in Richton, Miss., on April 26, 1927, to Charles Leslie and Annie Gertrude McCoy George, she moved with her family to Bogalusa when she was 6 months old and was a lifelong Bogalusa resident.

Educated in the Bogalusa City School System, she attended Soule Business College in New Orleans and returned to Bogalusa where she was employed by Washington Bank until her marriage to Willian “Billie” Clyde Swilley on Nov. 16, 1947.

The devoted wife and mother of four, she was a dedicated homemaker. She served for years as a Cub Scout den mother, and was a member of Bogalusa Civic League, and Hillside Garden Club. A lifelong member of Superior Avenue Baptist Church, she loved her Sunday School Class, the Esther and Martha’s Willing Workers class.

She is survived by her husband, the love of her life, William “Billie” Clyde Swilley; a daughter, Sharon Swilley Bateman (George); a son, Jefferey Scott Swilley (Paula); six granddaughters, Anne Scott Bateman Moore (Kevin), Sarah Elizabeth Bateman Peters (Mike), Kathryn Brooke Bateman Stark (Bill), Lindsay Scott Swilley Bailey (Jacob), Lauren Alyce Swilley Sevier (Jonathan), and Leah Michelle Swilley; and five great-grandchildren, Alexander Bateman Moore, John Samuel Peters, Hutson McCann Moore, Eleanor Kathryn Stark, and Jackson Ryan Bailey.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Clyde Michael Swilley; and a stillborn baby; as well as by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. L. George; and her siblings, C. N. George, Dan George, Bill George, and Emily George Robichaux.

Visitation will be held at the Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 25, from 10 a.m. until time for the service at 2 p.m. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Bobby Holder. Interment will follow at the Ponemah Cemetery.
