Parish sets early voting record

Washington Parish Registrar of Voters Randy Strickland said Washington Parish residents set an early voting record.

“We did nearly 5,900 early voters,” said Strickland. “That probably, I’m going to say, that’s 1,200 or 1,300 more than we’ve ever done,” he said.

Strickland said he believes this turnout was due to the presidential race.

“We have very little local on the ballot,” he said. “We do have the aldermen in Angie and the mayor and aldermen in Franklinton and the (council member) in Bogalusa, but by far the presidential election is the main draw.”

Strickland said even with the high turnout, the voting machines worked fine and he reported no issues at all.

The early voting period concluded Tuesday, Nov. 1. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 8, and it begins at 6 a.m. and ends at 8 p.m.

Anyone who is registered to vote will need to bring a state-issued photo ID.
