James Samuel “Sam” Johnson, 66, passed away at his residence in New Orleans on Oct. 11, 2016.

He was born to the union of the late Jason Johnson Sr. and Alla Mae (Austin) Johnson. He was the youngest of four children. He attended school in Bogalusa and graduated from Central Memorial High School in 1968.

He served in the U.S. Army for two and a half years. After his honorable discharge, he attended Sullivan Vo-Tech for two years in machinery. From there, he was employed at Avondale Shipyard in New Orleans.

In 1973, he married Elaine Robertson, who preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory: a daughter, Alexis Marie Johnson of Gulfport, Miss.; two sisters, Betty J. Smith of New Orleans and Sarah Johnson (Larry) Morris of Bogalusa; one brother, Jason Johnson of New Orleans; four nephews; one niece; two great-nephews; and three great nieces; as well as a host of in-laws, relatives, friends and his special pet dog, Samantha.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin infant girls; and his wife.

The visitation will be held at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home in Bogalusa on Wednesday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel at 10 a.m. with the pastor Domet Dooley officiating. Interment will follow at the Bogalusa Cemetery.
