Iris Burns

Iris Todd Burns, 84, a resident of Franklinton, died at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, at Lakeview Regional Medical Center.

She was a longtime member of Victory Baptist Church where she was active in Sunday School and youth activities, often helping raise money for their trips. Iris was retired after working at Thrifty Drugs for many years. She loved camping and spending time on the Bogue Chitto River, even going on a family tubing adventure this summer. Iris was a dedicated volunteer at the Mile Branch Settlement since 1989 with the quilt sales and other needs. She was a true caretaker of others since early in her life and always cherished the time spent with her large family.

She is survived by: four daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia B. Weathers of Livingston, and Linda B. Barber, Bobbi B. Smith, Missy B. Corkern and Louis Corkern Sr., all of Franklinton; 16 Grandchildren and Spouses, Robert L. Weathers, Wendy and Barry LeBlanc, Melissa and Jeff Fussell, Charles W. Barber, Kayce and Kevin Singley, Jackie and Allen Riley, Johnathan T. Barber, Bonnie and Toby Boudreaux, Becky Seguin, Michelle and Todd Dykes, Eric and Mindy Slaven, Lisa and Jason Tubbs, Tommy and Aimee Haley, Jessica Smith, Louis Corkern Jr. and Michelle Corkern, and Robert D. Corkern; 41 great-grandchildren; a special niece, Jackie Briest; a special friend, Glenda Wilson; and also numerous great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Robert Burns; two daughters, Nelda Jean Burns and Berry L. Stringer; granddaughter, Jennifer Slaven; great-granddaughter Kelsey; her parents, Berry L. Todd and Lottie Mavis Patterson Todd; two sisters, Judy Bennett and Mary Ann Poulas; brother, William C. Todd and very recently by son-in-law, Billy E. Smith.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 22, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and after 10 a.m. on Friday. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Larry Archote officiating. Burial will follow in the Temple Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Robert Corkern, Louis Corkern Jr. Charlie Barber, Jordan LeBlanc, Bobby Tuner and Brenen Turner. The honorary pallbearer will be Coby Riley.
