Betty Thomas

Betty Jean Pittman Thomas, 84, a resident of the Bonner Creek community, passed away at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016 at the Resthaven Living Center in Bogalusa.

She was a longtime member of Bonner Creek Baptist Church, where she formerly taught Sunday school. Betty was a school bus driver for the Franklinton schools for 32 years and also drove the Bowling Green School athletic teams and Buccanette dance team for many years. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and spending time with her family.

She is survived by: two daughters and sons-in-law, JoEllen and Dan Gully of Robert, and Jauan and David King of Bonner Creek; four grandsons and spouses, Scott Thomas, Michael and Krystal Magee, Daniel and Megan Bickham, and Kasey Thomas; seven great-grandchildren, Chloe Magee, Emily Thomas, Kyle Thomas, Mason Bickham, Trevor Thomas, Brandon Thomas and Bailey Hutzler; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Alan Thomas; her husband of nearly 50 years, Villar Thomas; her parents, Ilos Pittman and Dora O’Neal Pittman; a brother, Howard Pittman; two sisters, Thelma Waskom and Hazel Jones; and grandson, Brandon Thomas.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 16, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday, Sept. 17, at Bonner Creek Baptist Church (Bonner Creek Road near Franklinton off of Highway 25 South) from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family encourages that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation (www.alz.org).

Pallbearers will be Michael Magee, Danny Bickham, Scott Thomas, Eric Jones, Gerald Jones and Guy Magee. The honorary pallbearer will be Spencer Jones.
