Sylvia Cothern

Sylvia Ann Martin Cothern, 73, of Bogalusa, passed away on Sept. 11, 2016.

Sylvia was born in Mandeville, to Frankie and Liston “Pop” Martin on Nov. 13, 1942. She graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1961, and she married Richard Willo “Dick” Cothern on May 21, 1965.

Sylvia is survived by her husband, Richard Willo “Dick” Cothern; her son, Richard “Darin” Cothern; her daughter-in-law, Lorrie Wells Cothern; her daughter, Keri Cothern King, and her son-in-law, Brian King. She was the beloved “Nana” of five granddaughters, Erin Leigh Cothern, Emily Noel Cothern, Ella Rose King, Ann Scott King, and Camille Celeste King. She is also survived by her two sisters, Carolyn Cromer (George) and Verna Gaye Talley (Dudley).

She is preceded in death by her brother, L. F. Martin, III; her father, Liston “Pop” Martin; and her mother, Frankie Robbins Martin.

Visitation for family and friends was held on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home Chapel from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Joseph Porter, and the Rev. Clay Norwood officiating. Interment will follow at Ponemah Cemetery.
