Help out your furry friends

Animal lovers, as well as just those who want to help a good cause, will have several opportunities to do so in the coming months.

The Magnolia Chapter of the Humane Society of Louisiana is starting a “community cats” project, in an attempt to trap, neuter and release stray cats. In addition to volunteers to catch the cats, the chapter is also seeking donations. Those interested can either drop off “cans for cats” at the Magnolia Thrift on Highway 59 in Abita Springs, or make a donation at the “coins for cats” jar at Dr. Charles Mehle’s dentist office at 310 Mississippi Ave. in Bogalusa.

The group is also raising funds through a T-shirt sale. Shirts are $15 and will be on sale through Sept. 30; visit www.booster.com/petfoster online for more information.

Finally, the chapter is also organizing its 2017 pet photo calendar. Everyone who has a pet is asked to enter and vote in the contest. For more information, visit online at www.gogophotocontest.com/magnoliachapter.

The chapter also holds many fundraisers and events throughout the year, all devoted to helping our furry friends. For more information, call Kay Grantham at 985-335-0758.
