Barbara Gayle Cantrell, 63, of Bogalusa, passed away on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, at St. Tammany Hospital.

Gayle is survived by her parents, Marvin (Pot) and Barbara (Bobby) Cantrell; brother, Rev. Paul Cantrell (Jenny); sons, Rev. James “Jimmy” Pierce (Melissa) and Richard (Ricky) Pierce; granddaughter, Arielle Pierce; nieces, Amanda “Mandie,” Ashley, Megan and Julianne Cantrell; nephew, Dante Cantrell; and other loving relatives.

Gayle was born in Bogalusa on July 15, 1963. She graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1971. She worked as school secretary at Head Start in Bogalusa for years. She later worked at the Bogalusa Department of Motor Vehicles.

Gayle devoted her life to her family. She was a loyal and dependable friend. She was kind and genuine to everyone she came in contact with. Gayle could always be counted on for a listening ear, shoulder to cry on or aid in a time of need. She was hard working and constantly put the needs of others above her own. Gayle had a compassionate, empathetic heart and was a blessing to all who knew her.

The visitation will be held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home, 216 Alabama Ave. in Bogalusa, on Wednesday, Sept. 14, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Greg Whaley of First Baptist Church officiating. A procession will follow with interment in Ponemah Cemetery.
