Buddy’s House of Dreams is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Bogalusa and in Gulfport, Miss. This organization is known for their community service and helping those in need.

By now, just about everyone knows about the recent flooding and how our sister parishes suffered from this disaster. So many children and families lost their homes, and all of their belongings. Many of these families that were displaced and had to come back home to the Bogalusa, Varnado and Angie area and are staying with family members.

Many of these displaced children won’t be able to return to school until mid-September, and some even later. Some have been enrolled into Bogalusa City Schools.

When Buddy’s House of Dreams caught wind of this tragic situation, the group wanted to help and knew that something had to be done, but they couldn’t do it alone. They immediately took action, and reached out to International Paper.

Valincia Nichols said when she reached out to Kalisa Hyman at International Paper for help, they responded immediately and donated to the cause. Because of International Paper’s monetary donation to Buddy’s House of Dreams, the group was able to supply dozens of displaced children with school supplies, snacks and personal hygiene supplies.

Nichols said that Buddy’s House of Dreams has had many sponsors, but International Paper will by far be one of the most memorable ones. She said that she has never worked with a company so eager to give, and passionate about helping the community. She also noted that it was definitely a pleasure working with Kalisa Hyman in this disaster relief effort.

Nichols also said that she believes that there are three things in human life that are important — the first is to be kind, the second is to be kind and the third is to be kind. She said that kindness is rooted in giving, and International Paper has definitely proven that.

Some have said when it comes to disaster relief, International Paper and Buddy’s House of Dreams are quite the “dynamic duo.”
