It was a tragic Labor Day weekend for a family in Bush.

Around 10 a.m. Sunday, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the 82000 block of Highway 21, after family members discovered their 3-year-old daughter unresponsive in their swimming pool.

The mother of the toddler told authorities the 3-year-old was in the living room watching television and playing. The mother walked away for a few minutes, and when she returned, the toddler was nowhere to be found.

After frantically searching the house, another family member discovered the toddler unresponsive in the swimming pool. The mother started CPR until emergency crews from Fire District #9 and Acadian Ambulance arrived.

The toddler was airlifted to Bogalusa Charity Hospital. Despite desperate attempts to restore life to the child, doctors pronounced her deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital.

“This is any parent’s worst nightmare,” St Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith said. “Whenever a young child is involved in a tragic accident, it really hits home and affects everyone involved. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. We hope they find comfort during this heartbreaking time.”

The names of those involved are not being released, as the family requests privacy during this tragic time.
