Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at Grace Presbyterian Church in Lafayette, for Robert L. Adams, 80, who died on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, at Pelican Pointe Rehabilitation Center.

The Rev. Zach Sasser will officiate the services.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 57 years, Betty Henry Adams; two daughters, Allison Karnath and Andrea Montgomery; two sons-in-law, Michael Karnath and Paul Montgomery; one sister, Peggy Adams; eight grandchildren, Sean Karnath, Mary Karnath Duhe and her husband, Mark, Tyler Montgomery and his wife, Cherish, Ellen Montgomery and her fiancé, Aaron Vaughn, Julia Montgomery and Anna Montgomery; and two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Genevieve Montgomery; as well numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Inez Perry Adams; and two sisters, Jean Brown and Patsy Adams.

Robert Lester Adams was born in San Antonio, Texas, and loved telling stories of growing up in France, Germany and Japan. He was a long time resident of New Orleans and Bogalusa, before returning to reside in Lafayette, for a total of over 22 years.

He was a graduate of Louisiana College, earned a master’s degree from LSU and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Lafayette Art Association, the Lafayette Photographic Society and Grace Presbyterian Church.

He was an award-winning sports editor for the Daily World Newspaper in Opelousas and worked in public relations for Bell South before his retirement. Mr. Adams enjoyed feeding family and friends, traveling, taking photographs and chocolate. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family requests that visitation be observed at Grace Presbyterian Church, 518 Roselawn Blvd. in Lafayette, on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m.

Inurnment will be Sunday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m. at Palestine Baptist Church in Bogalusa. Family and friends are welcome.
