Walter H. Scott, 71, of Poplarville, Miss., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, surrounded by his family.

Services will be at Sones Chapel Baptist Church, located at 675 Sones Chapel Road in Carriere, Miss., on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Lynn Martin and Dr. Bryant Barnes will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and have visitation from 10 a.m. until services Tuesday at the church.

Mr. Scott was born May 18, 1945, in Pearl River County to Walter Cobe Scott and Ruby Sones Scott. He was a heavy equipment operator and cattleman. He attended Ben’s Ford Baptist Church in Bogalusa and was a member of Derby Baptist Church.

Walter was “a Man, Among Men.” He touched the lives of many in his community. Far and wide, there were not many places he wasn’t known. He was a dear husband, cherished father, adored grandfather, and beloved great grandfather. A friend, peacemaker, and loving servant of the Lord, he will be sorely missed.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Carol Strickland.

Family members include his wife of 47 years, Judy Grisham Scott; five children, Linda Lang (Mike), Keith Stines (Lori), Rhonda Mitchell (Matt), Shane Scott (Mitou) and Renee Theriot (Herbert); three siblings, Robert Scott, Martha Prince and Rosemary Botye; 11 grandchildren, Kolyn Smith, Laken Stines, Allie Dossett, Madisen Wells, Marcus Theriot, Mason Theriot, Marion Scott, Jennings Scott, MeLayna Theriot, Logan Stines and Bradley Stines; three great-grandchildren, Mooney Smith, Romy Smith, Hadley Wells; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Walter H. Scott Benefit, c/o First National Bank of Poplarville.
