Classie Bearden

Classie Mae Bearden answered the master’s final call on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, in Houston, Texas, at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Classie was born on Nov. 22, 1944, to the late Cleve and Alice Bearden in Bogalusa.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Alice and Cleve Bearden; step-mother, Sophie Bearden; three brothers, Joseph, Jonas and Josephus Bearden; and three sisters, Bonnie B. Brown, Essie Bearden and Yvonne Washington.

She leaves to celebrate her new life in heaven and cherish her earthly memories: daughters, Phyllis Strawder of Houston and Yvette Bearden of Bogalusa; son, Jumetrus Bearden of Bogalusa; niece, Mary Brown of Bogalusa; sister-in-law, Maxine Bearden of New Orleans; grandchildren, Tamika Bearden of Houston, Lakelia Bearden, Jamia Bolton, Javontae Bearden, Jemetria Newell, Jumetrus Bearden Jr., Jayden Bearden, Jasmine Schillling (Devyn) and Laura Weary of Bogalusa; great-grandchildren, Jyren Bearden, Jamiya Brown, Lance Jackson II, Jayla Bearden, Jemerious Williams, JaMarlo Williams, I’Bree Manning, Devin Lee Schilling Jr., Mariyah Marks (Ladybug), Reginald Ryan-Carter Young (Big Yella) and Kash Bearden (Guitar Slim) — she had favorite names for her new great-grandchildren; nephews, Josephus Bearden Jr. and Nicholas Bearden; special cousins, Pauline Torrence, Shirley Peters, Janice Pigott, Rose Rayford, and Barbara Williams; lifelong friends, Olivia Mondy, Faye Holts, Vie Magee, Emma Lee and Emma Sibley; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 2, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., with a family hour from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral will be held at noon on Saturday, Sept. 3, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with the Rev. Douglas Hart officiating.
