As a low pressure system named “Invest 99-L” heads toward Florida bringing rains and winds, parish leaders say they have an eye on the storm in case in gains strength and becomes a hurricane.
The storm is currently a tropical disturbance.
Parish President Richard Thomas said he is working with the state officials and the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness to make sure the parish is prepared.
“Our staff will post updates to the Washington Parish Government’s webpage, www.washingtonparishalerts.org and the Facebook pages of the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness and the Washington Parish Government,” he said.
Thomas added that so far the future of the storm is uncertain and it may not hit Louisiana. Nevertheless, he urged preparedness.
“All residents, if you haven’t already done so, should be preparing, and as always, have an emergency plan in place,” he said. “Now is the time to make sure your generator is in order and you have all necessary supplies you may need.”
