Ethel “Louise” Newell Black, 94, a lifelong resident of Bogalusa died, Thursday, August 18, 2016. She is survived by her four sons, Clarence Leo Black, III, (Carol) Raymond Newell Black, (Terry) Paul Rene Black, (Mitzi) and Alan McGrath Black (Deni); 12 grandchildren, Adrian, Renae, Kevin, Daniel, Matthew, Kristen, Lance, Justin, Nicholas, Andrew, Alexander and Patrick; and four great-grandchildren, Rowen, Madelyn, Grady and Evelyn. She is also survived by a sister, Agnes Newell; a host of nieces and nephews.

Beloved wife of the late Clarence Leo “Buddy” Black, Jr. for over 50 blessed years. She is preceded in death by her father Guy Rene Newell, Sr.; her mother Marie Louise LeBlanc Newell; a sister, Clisty Agatha Newell; and her brother Dr. Guy Rene Newell, Jr.

She was born in Norfield, Mississippi October 21, 1921. She retired from the Bogalusa Community Mental Health Clinic where she was an integral part of the office staff. She was a member and a volunteer for numerous community organizations including, Northside Elementary PTA, Bogalusa Duplicate Bridge Club, Ingleside Symposium, Bogalusa Civic League, Ladies Annunciation Catholic Church Alter and Rosary Society, Italian American Club, French Club, Ladies Mardi Gras Group GG’s, and the Bogalusa Country Club Golden Girls. Additionally, she was an avid reader with Mark Twain being her favorite author; she was a collector of classic books, stamps and fine coins, and one of her favorite long time hobbies was needlepointing.

Sunday’s visitation will be at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on August 21st; from 5:30 -9 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Monday’s visitation will be at Annunciation Catholic Church Aug. 22, from 9 – 11 a.m. Mass will be officiated by Reverend Father Daniel Brouillette at 11 a.m. Interment to immediately follow at Ponemah Cemetery.
