Following an investigation into alleged sexual offenses against a juvenile, Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives recently arrested Wayne Jenkins, 27, a resident of Ricky Jenkins Road, which is located between Pine and Varnado.

Jenkins was booked into the Washington Parish Jail on Thursday, charged with indecent behavior with a juvenile and sexual battery. No bond has been set at this time.

Chief Deputy Mike Haley of the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office said that due to the nature of this matter, no additional information will be provided so that the identity of the juvenile and the family can be protected.

Sheriff Randy Seal commented on the arrest.

“Matters such as this are heart-wrenching, not only to the victim and family, but also to officers who conduct the investigation,” he said. “I wish there could be no such thing as child abuse in any form. The reality, though, is that it exists in all segments of our society.

“When these cases are brought to our attention, our officers do all within their power not only to identify and arrest the person who committed the abuse but also to be very sensitive to the needs of the child and the child’s family.”
