City has short meeting, honors student

Tuesday’s meeting of the Bogalusa City Council was a brief one.

With councilmen Doug Ritchie, Brian McCree, and Andy DeLeon absent, board president Sherry Fontenberry noted that with only herself, councilwomen Gloria Kates, Tamira Smith and Teddy Drummond present, there were not enough board members to make a quorum.

All agenda items will be brought up at the next city council meeting on Tuesday, July 19, at 5:30 p.m., at Bogalusa City Hall.

However, after Tuesday’s meeting was canceled, Kates, Smith and Drummond stuck around to honor Bogalusa High School salutatorian David Duong. The salutatorian is the graduate who has the second-highest average in a graduating class.

Duong is now in college and no longer lives in Bogalusa, so rather than ask him to return later in the month, the three council members presented him with a certificate of academic excellence signed by Mayor Wendy Perrette.

The BHS valedictorian is expected to be recognized at the next city council meeting. Among other issues, the council will hear the annual auditor’s report at that meeting.
