James Earl Magee, 45, a resident of Upper Sunlight Road in Walthall County, Miss., was recently arrested on several charges, beginning with domestic violence that occurred on Recreation Road in Angie in February.
Chief Deputy Mike Haley of the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office said that Magee has been sought since February, by the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office and Mississippi law enforcement agencies.
Haley said that Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives obtained a warrant for Magee’s arrest and entered him as a wanted person in the national crime computer database. Magee was located in New Orleans, arrested by the New Orleans Police Department, and transported to Washington Parish. He was booked into the Washington Parish Jail on Tuesday, June 28, with bond set at $112,550.
Haley said that Magee is charged with aggravated assault-domestic violence, aggravated assault with a firearm, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, burglary of a vehicle, theft, attachment, and two counts of felony criminal damage.
Parish Sheriff Randy Seal said that his office takes domestic violence cases seriously.
“Domestic violence is a serious crime and we will always vigorously pursue a domestic violence offender and do all we can to assist victims,” he said. “If anyone is a victim of domestic violence, the Sheriff’s Office will assist you in getting the help you need.
“We have a victim’s rights advocate on staff and she is available to advise you and assist you in obtaining a protective order. Please give us a call at (985) 839-3434 if you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence.”
