Myrtle Candace Dyson Johnson was born Sept. 4, 1927, in Franklinton, to the late Fletcher and Amanda (Magee) Dyson. Myrtle was the only sister of four brothers —Ellison Frederick, Terry Cleophus, Melodyses Fletcher and Collidge Jones Dyson — who all preceded her in death.

Myrtle attended Washington Parish Training School and furthered her studies at Southern University, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in secretarial science. She was the 17th Miss Southern University for 1947-1948. She also became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority in 1947.

She married W. L. Johnson on Aug. 22, 1948. They created a wonderful life for their only child, Dr. Vincent Tyrone, born Dec. 24, 1949. Mrs. Myrtle returned to Southern University in 1952, and obtained her Elementary Teacher Certification.

Myrtle assumed the position of teacher at Jones Creek School in Varnado. She later became a teacher at Franklinton Elementary School, from which she retired.

Her devotion to her family was only surpassed by her love of the Lord. The Lord provided excellent care by the hands of her cousin, Mrs. Frances Brumfield Smith and Mrs. Angela Lanoix, Home Health Care provider.

She is survived by her only son, Dr. Vincent Tyrone (Ruth) Johnson; grandchildren Vincent T. Johnson II (Rachael), David T. Price, I (Katina), Henry J. Price, Kasey Trichon Morgan (Christopher) and Niani T. Price; great grandchildren, Cierra and Jada Price, Phoebe and Cree Ortega, Hunter Aristotle Johnson, Imanee Magee, David T. Price II, Thalia Schiesswohl, Kristen and Courtney Morgan; and one great-great grandson, Levi Lambert.

Visitation was from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, at Crain and Sons Funeral Home of Franklinton.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, at Sweet Home Church of Christ Holiness in Franklinton. Interment will follow in Winan Cemetery.
