American Legion Magic City Post 24 announces Independence Day theme and schedule.

The Magic City Post 24 of the American Legion announces the theme for this year’s celebration of Independence Day and Bogalusa’s 102nd birthday. This year’s theme is “A Living Legacy” and will begin with the Paper Queen Pageant on Second honoring this year’s Queen Madison Pope, and her court.

The annual Fourth of July parade will be held on Monday, July 4 beginning at 10 a.m. and will feature Bogalusa native Brigadier General Lee Hopkins as the Grand Marshall. In keeping with the theme, the parade will also honor living veterans from various services to include those who served in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Shield/Storm, as well as OIF/OEF.

Also to be honored in the parade are this year’s American Legion Heroes of the year featuring members of the Bogalusa Police and Fire Department as well as the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The parade will showcase such entries as the American Legion Rider’s Motorcycle group, the Paper Queen Court as well as any visiting fair and festival queens, elected officials, military vehicles, classic cars, local civic organizations, antique tractors, and various other entries.

The parade will take the traditional route beginning on Columbia Street and ending in the Bogalusa High School Willis Avenue parking lot due to the closure of Cassidy Park.
