Franklinton police officers are investigating a murder after a 33-year-old man was shot to death early Tuesday morning.

According to a press release, Kaniaki Williams of Franklinton was shot at around 1:58 a.m. in the 2500 block of Greenlaw Street.

It is not clear whether he was shot more than once. Williams was taken to Riverside Hospital and then to North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, where he died.

By Tuesday afternoon, Major Justin Brown said police had detained two people for questioning.

“We do have two people that we’ve detained thus far whom we believe are responsible,” said Brown. “There may be more individuals detained as the case continues. My detectives are collecting interviews and collecting evidence and talking to people in the neighborhood and processing the crime scene.”

Brown said police have no motive as yet.

The police detectives are requesting help from the public, and if anyone has any information about the homicide, they can call 985-839-2977.
