The Bogalusa School Board met Wednesday for a routine school meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting, board president Curtis Creel announced the Child Nutrition Manager of the Year and Tech of the Year awards, and there were dual awards in both categories.

For the Child Nutritional Manager of the year, the district awarded Antoinette “Tang” Magee and Regina Hayes. For Tech of the Year, awards went to Shinell Roberts and Doylar “Caprice” Dyson.

Later in the meeting, the board approved the district’s financial statements and a motion to advertise for bids for milk, bread, frozen and processed foods and kitchen and sanitation supplies. The board also approved discarding system-wide fixed assets.

After that, the board approved the high school Army JROTC group’s travel to Camp Shelby in June.

Robin Day, the administrative assistant to the superintendent, said that Superintendent Willie Breaux then recognized the 2015-2016 basketball coaching team for a good year. Coach Kenneth Matthews was coach of the year, and the superintendent recognized his staff, James Butler, Aubrey Watson and Troy Wilson.

Finally, Day said board member Adam Kemp suggested that the board adopt a new travel policy for board members as a cost-cutting measure.

Day said there will be an executive session at the June meeting to discuss the idea further.

The next meeting will be June 23 at 5:30 p.m.
