An Angie man was arrested Tuesday, after law enforcement officials said he was a drug dealer who allegedly used the postal service to receive shipments of marijuana through the mail.

Chief Deputy Mike Haley of the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office said that on Tuesday morning, a joint operation conducted by the WPSO Drug Task Force, United States Postal Service (USPS) inspectors and Rayburn Correctional Center resulted in the arrest of Brian Adonius Jackson, 22, at his residence on Jerry Moses Road in Angie.

Haley said that the investigation had determined that Jackson was allegedly receiving shipments of marijuana through the USPS and that another package was being shipped to his residence. Once the package arrived at the post office, a Rayburn Correctional Center canine team verified the presence of narcotics inside the package, Haley said.

The package was delivered to Jackson’s residence by a USPS inspector posing as a mail carrier. Haley said that once Jackson accepted delivery, he was arrested by Drug Task Force detectives, who seized the package containing approximately one pound of high-grade marijuana.

Jackson was placed in the Washington Parish Jail with his bond set at $25,000. On Thursday, Jackson met the conditions of his bond and was released.

“Previous arrests have shown that we work closely with surrounding jurisdictions and with the fine staff of Rayburn Correctional Center,” Sheriff Randy Seal said. “We also have a good working relationship with United States Postal Service inspectors on matters which involve drug deliveries through the mail.

“I appreciate the diligence of the fine officers from each of these agencies and am so pleased we could work together to get this marijuana out of the hands of a drug dealer. Drug dealers should never be surprised when our Drug Task Force officers show up. They work daily to identify drug dealers and collect evidence to make an arrest.”
